Thanks for the note about the trail conditions near Mount Rainier. I checked a few sources and it looks like the snowpack is still pretty deep above 4,500 feet, so the Skyline Trail might be challenging until mid-July. The Nisqually Vista loop is usually clear earlier and offers good views without requiring crampons. I also heard the Paradise area road is open but they are doing construction near the visitor center so expect delays. I have not hiked the Bench Lake trail yet but a friend said the wildflowers were starting to bloom last week. If you want to plan a trip I can look into campground availability for late July.

Regarding the patio furniture project I was asking about, I ended up going with a teak oil finish rather than paint because it holds up better through the winter cycles. I applied two coats with a brush and let it cure for about three days before putting cushions back on. The color deepened nicely after the first rain. I found that using a lint-free cloth for the final buff helped avoid streaks. I still need to treat the armrests again before the humidity sets in. I can send photos if you want to see how the grain turned out after sanding with a medium grit pad.
