For Licensed Drivers: Road Kit Is Being Sent

Thanks for reaching out about the quinoa and black bean salad recipe. I have made it several times and found that letting the quinoa cool completely before mixing really helps the texture. For the dressing, I usually cut the lime juice by about a tablespoon because I prefer it less tangy, and I add a small pinch of smoked paprika for depth. If you are making it ahead, I would suggest keeping the avocado separate and adding it just before serving so it does not turn brown. The recipe works well as a side dish for grilled chicken or fish, and leftovers hold up nicely in the fridge for about two days. I have also tried swapping the black beans for chickpeas and it was just as good. Let me know if you want the exact measurements I use for the dressing because I adjusted it quite a bit from the original version. I think you will really like how fresh and filling it turns out.

The program supplies a curated selection of tools and aids to help you handle common roadside situations.

What the kit includes:

• Emergency LED flashlight with batteries • Heavy-duty jumper cables (16 ft)
• Reflective safety triangles (3 pack) • Multi-tool with pliers and screwdriver bits
• First aid kit (bandages, antiseptic, gloves) • Tire pressure gauge with LED light
• Emergency thermal blanket • Rain poncho (one size fits most)
• Seatbelt cutter and window breaker tool • Work gloves (heavy-duty fabric)
• Compact air compressor (12V) • Road flares (3 pack, LED)

Kit availability is determined by program allocation for each area. Supplies are distributed according to regional eligibility, and quantities may vary by location.

I saw your note about the garden planning spreadsheet and wanted to share a few thoughts. For the raised bed layout, I have found that grouping plants by water needs makes irrigation much simpler. I put tomatoes and peppers on one side and herbs on the other because they like less water. The trellis should go on the north edge so it does not shade the lower crops. I also add a layer of cardboard under the soil to suppress weeds and it has worked well for the past two seasons. If you are starting from seed, I would recommend using a heat mat for the peppers because they take longer to germinate. Let me know if you want me to send you the variety list I used last year. I kept notes on which ones produced best in our climate and I think they would work for your setup too. The soil test results should arrive later this week and I can forward those along when they come.
