A A A Sends Your Courteousy Road Kit Now on the Way

We ended up going with the route through the foothills instead of the coastal highway. It added about forty minutes to the drive but the views were much better and we stopped at a small orchard along the way. Everyone agreed it was the right call. We're planning to do it again next month but maybe start earlier so we can spend more time at the summit before heading back down. I'll send the sign-up sheet around later this week so people can pick their preferred weekend. Let me know if you want to bring a guest.

The trail conditions were good overall though there were a few muddy spots near the creek crossing. We wore boots with good tread and had no issues but someone in sneakers might slip. The park ranger mentioned they're planning to add more gravel there in the spring. We also saw a pair of red-tailed hawks circling above the meadow which was pretty memorable. I'm thinking of bringing a field guide next time to identify more of the bird calls we heard.

For the potluck afterward we had way too much food which is always a good problem. The pulled pork was very popular and the coleslaw recipe you shared got several compliments. I'm planning to make that again for the family reunion next month.

I wanted to follow up on the community garden layout we discussed last week. After talking with the volunteers, we decided to go with the raised bed design along the south fence line rather than the center rows. This gives us more room for the compost bins and a small seating area near the shed. We've already got six people confirmed for the build day and three more who said they can help with planting later in the month.

The soil test came back and the pH is slightly alkaline so we'll amend with some organic matter before putting in the vegetables. Tomatoes and peppers should do well on the sunny side and the leafy greens can go in the partially shaded beds near the elderberry bushes. We also need to order about two cubic yards of mulch for the pathways to keep the weeds down.

I reserved the park pavilion for the first Saturday in May from 8am to 2pm in case of rain. We'll have coffee and pastries in the morning and I'm asking people to bring a dish to share for lunch. I'll send a reminder email a week before with the tool list and parking instructions. Let me know if you think of anything we're missing.
