I saw your note about the community garden layout and I think the raised bed approach makes sense for the slope. We had a similar situation at our neighborhood plot last year and ended up terracing with untreated lumber. The drainage improved a lot once we angled the beds slightly southward. Also, if you are planting tomatoes near the fence, make sure they get enough airflow. I can send you the spacing guide I used if that helps.

I think the best route for the project is to use the mixed-media approach we talked about. The acrylics will layer well over the gesso if you let each coat dry fully between applications. For the textured parts, try adding modeling paste before the final color layers. That should give you the depth you are looking for without cracking.
