Hey Mark, thanks for asking about the trail last weekend. We ended up doing the ridge loop instead of the valley path because the ranger said the valley was still pretty muddy from the rain earlier in the week. The ridge was incredible, honestly. We got there just before sunrise and had the summit completely to ourselves for about an hour. The fog was burning off the lake below, and you could see for miles. I brought that new lightweight stove you recommended, and it worked perfectly for boiling water for coffee. Definitely a good call on that one. We are already planning the next trip for next month, maybe something in the southern part of the park. I will send you the route we ended up taking if you want to check it out on your mapping app. Let me know if you and Sarah are free that weekend. It would be great to have you both along for it. Oh, and I finally replaced the worn-out boots I had been complaining about. Broke them in on this hike and they felt great. No blisters at all, which is a first for me with a new pair. I went with that brand you suggested and ordered a half size larger than usual. The extra toe room made a big difference on the downhill sections. Highly recommend doing that if you end up getting a new pair before our next trip.

Oh, the puppy is doing great, thanks for asking! We finally settled on the name "Buddy," and he is already starting to respond to it, which is a huge relief. The first few nights were rough with the whining, but he has been sleeping through the last three nights straight, so I think we are turning a corner. We signed him up for a basic obedience class that starts next Tuesday, mostly so he can learn to socialize with other dogs properly. The vet gave him a clean bill of health at his last checkup, just a few more shots to go. He has so much energy, it is incredible. We are doing short training sessions throughout the day with treats, and he has already mastered "sit" and "stay" about half the time. The biting is still a work in progress, but the vet gave us some good tips on redirecting him to his chew toys. We are trying to get him on a consistent schedule for walks and meals, which seems to be helping a lot. I will send you a picture of him from the park later. He is getting so big so fast.
I also finally ordered that crate you recommended. It should arrive later this week. We are hoping it will help with the crate training because right now he still prefers to sleep on the cold tile floor in the kitchen. The breeder said it might take a little while for him to get used to it, so we are trying to be patient and make it a positive space for him with lots of treats and his favorite blanket. Fingers crossed it works out.
