I finally got around to trying that new woodworking technique for making simple floating shelves. You basically cut a piece of plywood into a rectangle, route the edges for a clean look, and then attach a cleat to the back. The tricky part is making sure the shelf itself is perfectly level before securing everything. I found that using a leveling jig eliminates most of the guesswork. It took me an afternoon to finish two shelves but the result was really satisfying. Let me know if you want a hand setting up something similar at your place next weekend.
