Hi there, I was thinking about your question regarding the garden layout for the backyard. The raised beds you mentioned would work really well along the south fence where they'll get full sun. I measured that area yesterday and it's about fourteen feet by three feet which is plenty for tomatoes and peppers. We could also tuck some herbs along the edge of the patio if you want easy access while cooking. I found a few varieties of basil that stay compact and don't take over the whole bed. The soil there is actually pretty good already but I'd recommend mixing in some compost before planting. I can bring a bag when I come over this weekend if that works for you. Let me know what you think about the layout and if you want to adjust the spacing at all.

Thanks for asking about the book I mentioned last week. I finally finished reading it and honestly the middle section dragged a bit but the ending made up for it. The main character reminded me of someone I used to work with actually - very meticulous about details but struggled with the bigger picture. There is a chapter about halfway through where they visit a coastal town and the description of the morning fog rolling in off the water was really well written. I ended up bookmarking several passages. If you want to borrow it I can drop it off when I come by on Thursday. I also started another one by the same author and so far it seems lighter in tone which might be a nice change. Let me know if you want me to grab you a copy from the library.
